Summary

This article discusses some reasons why companies fail to engage in employee recognition as well as some suggestions for handling them. These reasons include not understanding the impact of employee recognition, not understanding the meaning of employee recognition, assuming employee recognition must be expensive, and being uncomfortable with giving recognition. A three-step process is presented: tell the action, connect to the focus area, and share the impact. The article concludes by challenging everyone to begin recognizing employees, whether formally or informally.
