From 1999 to 2017, local Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards were sponsored by state, provincial and territorial psychological associations with support from the American Psychological Association. The award was presented to organizations that demonstrated a commitment to programs and policies that foster employee health and well-being while enhancing organizational performance. Awards were given to large, medium and small for-profit companies, not-for-profit organizations, and government, military and educational institutions. The award was based on the organization’s workplace practices in the following five areas:

  • Employee Involvement
  • Work-Life Balance
  • Employee Growth and Development
  • Health and Safety
  • Employee Recognition

Local awards were discontinued in 2018, when they were replaced by a centralized process managed by the American Psychological Association.
